Ever used AI to write something, only to get robotic results and have it detected AI-generated? I've been there. Whether you're a student, marketer, or content creator, AI detection tools can be a frustrating hurdle.
So, I decided to put 10 popular methods to make AI text undetectable to the test—humanizing tools, manual tweaks, and more—to see which ones actually work.
The results? Some tricks failed miserably, while others made AI text nearly indistinguishable from human writing.
In this article, I'll break down what worked (and what didn't), with real test data from detectors like Originality.ai and GPTZero. If you want to make AI text undetectable, here's what you need to know.
How I Tested These Methods to Make AI Text Undetectable
Before we get started, I'd like to let you know how I test these methods to see which ones actually work.
First, I had AI write two different pieces covering different topics:

Then, I ran them through two top AI detectors—GPTZero and Originality.ai—to see what AI score they would get. The scores we get will help us understand where we're starting from. Here's what the tools said:
| AI-generated Text | GPTZero | Originality.ai |
| Topic 1 | 98% AI | 100% AI |
| Topic 2 | 97% AI | 100% AI |
Next, we'll try out each method on the same texts and see how the new scores compare to our starting scores. This way, we'll discover just how much each method really helps to make AI content harder to detect. Let's get started!
TL;DR - How Well Do These Methods Score?
If you don't want to read the test details, we've put together an easy-to-read summary table below.
It shows how each method we tested stacks up against the top AI detection tools. This quick overview will help you see which strategies might work best for you!
What I discovered is that each method works differently when it comes to dodging those AI detectors.
| Undetectable AI Writing Method | GPTZero - Topic 1 | GPTZero - Topic 2 | Originality.ai - Topic 1 | Originality.ai - Topic 2 |
| Original Text | 98% AI | 97% AI | 100% AI | 100% AI |
| 1. Use BypassGPT | 0% AI | 0% AI | 0% AI | 1% AI |
| 2. Use QuillBot | 53% AI | 81% AI | 100% AI | 100% AI |
| 3. Rewrite Manually | 0% AI | 12% AI | 28% AI | 51% AI |
| 4. Avoid Full AI Writing | 98% AI | 79% AI | 100% AI | 91% AI |
| 5. Adjust Vocabulary | 98% AI | 96% AI | 100% AI | 100% AI |
| 6. Adjust Structure | 88% AI | 7% AI | 92% AI | 75% AI |
| 7. Use Right Prompts | 96% AI | 82% AI | 99% AI | 96% AI |
| 8. Use ChatGPT to Revise | 97% AI | 75% AI | 100% AI | 100% AI |
| 9. Add Inconsistencies | 90% AI | 80% AI | 8% AI | 99% AI |
| 10. Use Similar Letters | 96% AI | 93% AI | 19% AI | 10% AI |
But the big winner is to use an undetectable AI writer like BypassGPT! It really stands out because it does an amazing job at making AI text undetectable. It's a smart and easy choice if you want to do it easily and instantly.
Now, let's take a closer look at the 10 popular methods and see how we can make AI text undetectable.
Use an Undetectable AI Writer
The easiest and most reliable way to make AI undetectable is to use an undetectable AI writer like BypassGPT.
It is specifically to help AI-generated content sound more human and can do it all with just one click. That means your text can bypass even the best AI detectors out there!
BypassGPT is one of the best undetectable AI writers you can find. It uses advanced AI technology to turn bland or repetitive AI content into more unique and engaging text.
When you use this tool, you can let your creativity shine without worrying about being caught by AI detectors or having your work marked as spam.
With BypassGPT, you can bypass even the well-known AI detectors like Originality.ai and GPTZero. In short, it's the most straightforward method to make AI written text undetectable.
Let's take a further look at its performance.
First, I put BypassGPT to the test with some AI-generated text on two different topics. Here's what I found:

Subsequently, I analyzed these results using two AI detection tools:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - BypassGPT | 0% AI | 0% AI |
| Topic 2 - BypassGPT | 0% AI | 1% AI |
The results were amazing! BypassGPT changed the AI-written text so well that GPTZero didn't detect any AI presence at all for Topic 1 and Topic 2. Originality.ai showed a 0% AI score for Topic 1 and just 1% for Topic 2. This really shows how great BypassGPT is at making AI text undetectable!
Use a Paraphrasing Tool
If you want another way to make AI text undetectable, you can try using online rewriting or paraphrasing tools.
These tools help you change up your AI-generated text by swapping out some robotic-sounding words for more natural ones. This can really help make the text less detectable!
I've heard some users reported getting a 99% human score after using QuillBot to paraphrase content from ChatGPT. So, I decided to test QuillBot myself. Here's what it did with my two pieces of text:

Now, let's see if these two texts can bypass AI detectors. Here are the results:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - QuillBot | 53% AI | 100% AI |
| Topic 2 - QuillBot | 81% AI | 100% AI |
The results were pretty mixed. For Topic 1, GPTZero detected 53% AI content, while Originality.ai marked it as 100% AI. For Topic 2, GPTZero showed an 81% detection, and Originality.ai still flagged it as 100% AI.
This shows that while paraphrasing can help, it might not always be effective at bypassing AI detection.
Rewrite the Entire AI Passage by Hand
Another way you can try is to take the AI text and rewrite it yourself? When you do this, you add your own unique touch, turning AI writing into something that feels more human!
Start by really understanding the original text. Look for the key ideas and main points in each sentence. You can use synonyms and different ways to express the same ideas to switch up the words while keeping everything clear.
Also, try to stick to the original sentence structure as much as you can, but feel free to change it a bit if it helps the new wording flow better.
Keep in mind that rewriting by hand might take a lot more time. Plus, some AI detectors might still pick up on clues that the content was generated by AI and might flag it as such.
To see how well this method works, I decided to manually rewrite the two pieces of AI text. Check them out below:

After that, I tested our manual rewrites using two AI detectors, and here's what I found:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Rewrite Manually | 0% AI | 28% AI |
| Topic 2 - Rewrite Manually | 12% AI | 51% AI |
This method really helped reduce the AI detection scores! GPTZero gave Topic 1 a 0% AI score and Topic 2 a 12% score. Originality.ai also showed lower scores, but it still detected some AI presence (28% for Topic 1 and 51% for Topic 2).
This shows that rewriting by hand can be effective, but it takes time, and complete undetectability might not always happen.
Avoid Using AI Tools for Entire Articles
A simple way to make sure your writing isn't detected as AI is to not rely on AI tools for your whole article. Instead, you can write some parts yourself and then use AI to help fill in the gaps or tackle other sections.
If you've written an entire article using AI, you can always try to edit it and add my personal touch.
You can sprinkle in some human elements, like everyday phrases or emotional words, to make the writing feel more real and engaging. This helps the text feel less robotic and more convincing.
Using this idea, I made some changes to the two original texts. For Topic 1, I swapped out the last paragraph with a conclusion that I wrote myself.

For Topic 2, I rephrased some sentences to make sure AI wasn't the only one responsible for the whole passage.

But did this approach actually work? Let's take a look at the AI detection results for these two revised texts:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Avoid Using Entire AI | 98% AI | 100% AI |
| Topic 2 - Avoid Using Entire AI | 79% AI | 91% AI |
Unfortunately, it didn't work as well as I hoped. Both GPTZero and Originality.ai still detected a lot of AI content in both topics, with Originality.ai marking Topic 1 as 100% AI. This shows that this method wasn't very effective at reducing the detectability of AI.
Adjust the Vocabulary
This is one method I've heard others recommend frequently.
A lot of AI tools tend to stick to the same words over and over again. This can make the writing sound boring, repetitive, and kind of robotic.
So, if you're looking to make my AI-generated text less detectable or just want to mix things up, try reading through the content and swapping out certain words for better alternatives.
For example, instead of using “big,” I might choose “grand,” “large,” or “massive.”
To test how well this works, I replaced some words and phrases in both Topic 1 and Topic 2 with their synonyms, as you can see in the images below.

After that, I ran the revised texts through AI detection, and here's what I found:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Adjust the vocabulary | 98% AI | 100% AI |
| Topic 2 - Adjust the vocabulary | 96% AI | 100% AI |
Sadly, this didn't make much of a difference either. Both detectors still picked up the content as mostly AI-generated, showing that this method also has limited effectiveness when it comes to making AI text undetectable.
Paraphrase and Adjust Structure
Another helpful way to trick AI content detectors is by paraphrasing the text created by AI.
Sometimes, AI text can be a bit wordy or longer than it needs to be, so you can often shorten it and break up big paragraphs into smaller ones.
You can also make the content easier to read by adding new headers or rearranging sections to make everything feel more lively and interesting.
Following these ideas, I paraphrased and restructured Topic 1 and added headers to Topic 2:

Now, let's see how they did when I ran them through AI detectors:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Paraphrase and Adjust Structure | 88% AI | 92% AI |
| Topic 2 - Paraphrase and Adjust Structure | 7% AI | 75% AI |
The results were pretty mixed. For Topic 2, I saw a big improvement with GPTZero, which dropped to just a 7% AI detection score! But Originality.ai still caught a lot of AI in both topics. This shows that while changing the structure can help, it might not be enough by itself.
Use the Right Prompts
A trick that is said to be useful is to tweak the prompts you use to create content.
Try using "in the style of" prompts, like saying, “Pretend you are a [job], write [something] for [target audience/goal] in the style of [known person(s)/business].” I also mix up the length of my sentences to make the writing sound more natural and human-like.
I tried this "in the style of" prompt with ChatGPT to generate content on the same topics as the original texts.

Here's how these new ChatGPT-generated texts performed when I checked them with AI detectors:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Use the Right Prompts | 96% AI | 99% AI |
| Topic 2 - Use the Right Prompts | 82% AI | 96% AI |
Even though these texts were generated by ChatGPT, they didn't get a 100% AI score!
But this method didn't really help to reduce AI detectability much, according to both GPTZero and Originality.ai. This suggests that just changing the prompts might not be effective to make AI text undetectable.
Ask ChatGPT to Revise the Output
In addition to undetectable AI rewriters and QuillBot, another AI tool you can ask for help is ChatGPT itself.
So, how can you do this? A popular tip I found online is to tell ChatGPT to revise the text with more “perplexity” and “burstiness.” This means making the writing a bit more complex and varied.
I tried this out by asking ChatGPT to "rewrite the passage with a high degree of perplexity and burstiness" for the two original AI texts. Here's what I got:

Both pieces ended up being longer than the originals. But did this make them undetectable?
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Perplexity and Burstiness | 97% AI | 100% AI |
| Topic 2 - Perplexity and Burstiness | 75% AI | 100% AI |
Even though the revisions made the texts longer, they didn't really change the AI detection scores much. So just asking for more complexity and different sentence styles might not be enough to make AI text undetectable.
Add Some Inconsistencies
AI usually doesn't make mistakes in spelling or grammar. AI detectors are on the lookout for text that's completely error-free and super consistent.
So, if you want to trick these detection tools, you could add in a few little typos or mix up some grammar to make the text feel more human.
But, here's the catch: doing this could make my writing look a little less professional.
To see if this technique works, I asked ChatGPT to put some minor errors into the two pieces of text, just to mimic the way humans sometimes make mistakes.

So, will these little inconsistencies help the content go undetected? Let's check out the results from the AI detectors:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Use the Right Prompts | 90% AI | 8% AI |
| Topic 2 - Use the Right Prompts | 80% AI | 99% AI |
This method actually worked, especially with Originality.ai for Topic 1, which dropped the AI detection score a lot! But I have to be careful because it might make the writing look less polished.
Use Look-Alike Letters
I came across some interesting discussions on platforms like Reddit about a trick that might help get around AI detection systems. The idea is to swap out certain English letters with characters that look almost the same from other alphabets.
Even though this technique could work, I really wouldn't recommend using it for anything formal, like school assignments.
Why? When I tried replacing some letters with Cyrillic ones in two different texts, I noticed that the new letters looked a bit different in size compared to the regular ones. This made them seem kind of fake.

Now, even though I'm not saying this is the best method, here's how it performed in the AI detection tests:
| GPTZero | Originality.ai | |
| Topic 1 - Use Similar Letters | 96% AI | 19% AI |
| Topic 2 - Use Similar Letters | 93% AI | 10% AI |
Using similar letters gave mixed results. It worked really well against Originality.ai, but not so much with GPTZero. So, while this method might have some potential, it might not be the best choice for everything.
Why You Need to Make AI Writing Undetectable
So, why is it important for you to make AI-generated text undetectable? Here are a few key reasons:
Boost SEO Rating
Right now, Google doesn't ban or block AI content, but its algorithm is really good at spotting writing that sounds too robotic or spammy. Because of this, AI-written posts might not help my SEO much.
If you can make AI content undetectable, it can improve its chances of ranking higher in search results, which is great for my search engine optimization!
Improve Reader Experience
One downside of using AI to write articles and posts is that they can sometimes sound a bit weird or boring.
By making AI writing undetectable and adding a human touch, I can make the text easier to read and more enjoyable. This way, readers will be more engaged and happy with what they're reading!
Create Unique Content
Another reason to change AI writing to sound more human is to make it feel more unique.
The problem with AI tools right now is that so many people are using them. This has led to a lot of articles that sound almost the same.
By transforming AI writing into something more human, you can add a special twist that makes my content stand out.
Conclusion
Hopefully, from my test results above, you've learned what can really help you make AI text undetectable.
The easiest way to make undetectable AI content is to use an undetectable AI rewriter tool. You can also go through your AI text manually, but it takes a lot more time and effort. So it's usually better to find a reliable undetectable AI writer, like BypassGPT, to help you out!
